Columbia’s intercampus shuttles are going electric in 2018. The University has contracted to operate six new battery-electric buses to replace the existing diesel-powered buses on its campus shuttle network. The new fleet – among the first electric buses to be introduced in New York City – offers both environmental and health benefits, including reduced emissions and noise pollution, and improved air quality.
You are invited to tour an example of Columbia’s new electric buses, the 40-foot long Xcelsior CHARGE by New Flyer. Visitors will be able to see the features of the example electric bus and get their photo taken in the driver’s seat!
This initiative supports the goals outlined in Columbia’s Sustainability Plan.
