Communities Speak is a collaborative project led by Columbia University researchers in the School of International and Public Affairs Urban and Social Policy Program and the Department of Biomedical Informatics, CUIMC with a citywide network of community organizations, advocacy groups and government partners. Their aim is to expand community data collection in cities, in order to increase government’s capacity to develop policy in response to unanticipated economic and social shocks. In turn, their goal is to improve government’s responsiveness to the needs of low-income and minority populations as well as small businesses, who tend to experience the greatest adverse impacts from these shocks. Communities Speak enables government to design evidence-based policy that is grounded in community engagement.
