Abstract

Within both armed conflicts and peace operations, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex (LGBT+) persons disproportionately face violence and discrimination. While international organizations such as the United Nations have more widely recognized the LGBT+ population as a vulnerable group, there remains a sizable disconnect between western dialogue around LGBT+ human rights and the reality of preventing gender-based violence in the field. This expert panel will look at the challenges faced by these persons in areas of armed conflict and discuss paths forward for bridging gaps in their protection.
