Ingenuity on Display in First Green Fund Awards

April 21, 2014

The Office of Sustainability has announced the recipients of the first Green Fund awards at Columbia. The selected projects focus on water conservation, energy conservation and recycling, respectively. Water Audit, submitted by Kevin Chen and the Columbia Aquanauts, will monitor and then look at ways to reduce water use in a campus building. Bacchanal Gone Green, submitted by Corey Hammond, plans to incorporate an energy conservation awareness campaign at the 2015 Bacchanal concert via interactive bicycles engineered to generate energy when pedaled. Cup It, submitted by Winston Berkman, will use regular waste audits and a focused education campaign at the School of International and Public Affairs to inform students about how to properly dispose of their trash, starting with coffee cups.  Each team is expected to be awarded between $5,000 and $10,000 for the year-long implementation of its idea.
