The Forum created an opportunity to hear speakers including CCNY Engineering Professors Marco Castaldi and Ahmed Mohammed share their proposals for City College campus initiatives involving waste management and solar power projects.
In addition, Jessica Prata, Assistant Vice President of Sustainable Columbia addressed ways to set sustainability goals for universities, and Lemard Mayes, Chief of Staff for NYS Assembly Member Inez Dickens, discussed Dickens’ support for renewable energy initiatives.
The Forum was spearheaded by CCNY graduate student Yael Amron, who is pursuing her M.S. in Sustainability in the Urban Environment, and is part of the capstone team researching “New Ideas for Sustainability Improvements, Messaging and Engagement on the City College of New York” with advisor Stephanie Rose.
Attended by over 70 students, faculty and staff from City College and Columbia, the Forum created momentum and visibility on the City College campus for sustainability issues. Campus community members are encouraged to participate in the next joint CCNY/Columbia event on Thursday, April 27 - the Earth Week: Sustainability Action Summit.
