Decarbonizing CCNY Forum: Partnering with Columbia University

On Thursday, March 23, 2023, a group of City College of New York graduate students hosted a “Decarbonizing CCNY Forum”, as a joint event with Columbia University.

The Forum created an opportunity to hear speakers including CCNY Engineering Professors Marco Castaldi and Ahmed Mohammed share their proposals for City College campus initiatives involving waste management and solar power projects.

In addition, Jessica Prata, Assistant Vice President of Sustainable Columbia addressed ways to set sustainability goals for universities, and Lemard Mayes, Chief of Staff for NYS Assembly Member Inez Dickens, discussed Dickens’ support for renewable energy initiatives.

The Forum was spearheaded by CCNY graduate student Yael Amron, who is pursuing her M.S. in Sustainability in the Urban Environment, and is part of the capstone team researching “New Ideas for Sustainability Improvements, Messaging and Engagement on the City College of New York” with advisor Stephanie Rose.

Attended by over 70 students, faculty and staff from City College and Columbia, the Forum created momentum and visibility on the City College campus for sustainability issues.
