Columbia University Launches Brand New Sustainability Dashboard

October 13, 2014

The Office of Sustainability, Housing, and Facilities announce the launch of a new sustainability dashboard for Columbia University. As a part of the University’s commitment to sustainability, the dashboard will monitor electricity use in the undergraduate residence halls and provide a snapshot of activity in an effort to help residents be more mindful of energy habits and reduce consumption. In addition to energy conserved, the dashboard also calculates CO2 usage.

Students will have the ability to access the dashboard online at any time and track real-time electricity usage in their residence hall as well as others. 15 buildings are currently online.

The dashboard can be accessed online here. Data will also be shared on the flat-screens in Columbia residence halls.

Additional sustainability metrics, such as waste and recycling, will be collected and incorporated into the dashboard over time to show a collective impact of our efforts. To begin, data collected as part of the Green Monday initiative will be tracked in the dashboard so students can follow the community’s performance on plate scrapings, paper usage, and other key activities that are part of the program.
