Office of Sustainability Welcomes New Intern from Inaugural Climate Finance Class

The Office of Sustainability is pleased to welcome Priyal Patel as a new intern supporting a range of sustainability initiatives across the University.

March 04, 2026

Priyal brings experience in climate finance, ESG reporting, emissions data analysis, and sustainability program implementation across the private, public, and nonprofit sectors. Her work has focused on helping organizations better understand and use environmental data to guide meaningful action.

Prior to joining the Office of Sustainability, Priyal worked with Diligent, where she helped build datasets tracking Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions. She also served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in Hawaii, where she coordinated sustainability strategies across more than 20 organizations, gaining experience in collaborative climate and sustainability planning.

Priyal is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Climate Finance at the Columbia Climate School as part of the program’s inaugural class. Through her work with the Office of Sustainability, she has had the opportunity to see how a large institution with global reach translates sustainability commitments into operational programs and measurable outcomes.

So far during her internship, Priyal has supported several projects, including preparing presentation materials related to waste program centralization and conducting analysis of the University’s performance within the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) framework.

Priyal hopes her experience in climate finance will help organizations recognize that sustainability is not simply a cost center, but a lens for smarter, more resilient decision-making.

Outside of work and school, she enjoys hiking, painting, and keeping up with developments in sustainable finance in emerging markets and energy infrastructure.

The Office of Sustainability looks forward to Priyal’s continued contributions as she helps advance data-driven sustainability initiatives through Campus as Lab (CAL): a core initiative that connects students with real-world sustainability challenges. Learn more about CAL here.
